
More than 36 million pounds of fried rice, ramen and dumplings sold at Trader Joe’s locations nationwide are being recalled after some customers found shards of glass in the products.
An expanded recall was issued by Oregon-based Ajinomoto Foods North America, Inc., on March 3 for an additional 33,617,045 pounds of various chicken and pork fried rice, ramen and shu mai dumpling products, which is on top of the initial Feb. 19 recall of 3,370,530 pounds.
The total recall now covers 36,987,575 pounds of affected products, according to a release by the USDA’s Food and Inspection Service.

What Are the Products Being Recalled?
The expanded recall from March 3 applies to more than a dozen ready-to-eat and frozen chicken and pork fried rice, ramen and shu mai dumpling products.
Trader Joe’s Vegetable Fried Rice, Japanese Style Fried Rice and Chicken Shu Mai are part of the recall.

The four products sold under the Trader Joe’s brand name that are subject to the recall are as follows:
- Trader Joe’s Vegetable Fried Rice with “best by” dates between Feb. 28, 2026, through Nov. 19, 2026.
- Trader Joe’s Chicken Fried Rice with “best by” dates between March 4, 2026 and Feb. 10, 2027.
- Trader Joe’s Japanese Style Fried Rice with “best by” dates between Feb. 28, 2026, and Nov. 14, 2026.
- Trader Joe’s Chicken Shu Mai with “best by” dates between March 13, 2026, and Oct. 23, 2026.
The two products from the original recall on Feb. 19 are as follows:
- 1.53-kg. cardboard packages containing 6 bags of frozen Ajinomoto Yakitori Chicken with Japanese-style fried rice. The packages have “best before” dates of Sept. 9, 2026 through Nov. 12, 2026 and the establishment number P-18356 inside the USDA mark of inspection.
- 20-ounce plastic bag packages of frozen Trader Joe’s Chicken Fried Rice with stir fried rice, vegetables, seasoned dark meat chicken and eggs. The packages have a “best by” dates of 9/8/2026 through 11/17/2026 and the establishment number P-18356 inside the USDA mark of inspection.
Why Were the Products Recalled?
Ajinomoto Foods informed the FDA that it had received four consumer complaints about pieces of glass found in the products, according to the FDA release.
There have been no confirmed injuries from anyone consuming the affected products.
The products should be thrown away or returned to their place of purchase for a refund, according to the release.

The 20-ounce bags of Trader Joe’s Chicken Fried Rice were sold at Trader Joe’s locations nationwide.
The 1.53-kilogram bags of Ajinomoto Yakitori Chicken were only sold in Canada.
