Dairy Queen’s annual Free Cone Day is right around the corner.

Each year, the chain kicks off spring by giving away free ice cream for one day only.

Per a press release, Dairy Queen has given away 38 million free cones since the first Free Cone Day in 2015.

Free Cone Day Will Take Place on March 19

Dairy Queen’s Free Cone Day often falls on the first day of spring. This year, the event takes place one day earlier: Thursday, March 19, 2026.

What Can You Get on Free Cone Day?

Customers can visit non-mall Dairy Queen locations on March 19 for a free small vanilla cone, no purchase necessary. At mall locations, customers need to make a purchase to redeem the single-use offer.

The deal is valid all day at participating locations in the U.S. while supplies last. The offer excludes delivery and mobile orders.

Dairy Queen Is Running a Free Cone Day Sweepstakes

Just in time for Free Cone Day, Dairy Queen is running a sweepstakes that offers rewards members the opportunity to earn free cones for a year.

Between March 5 – 19, new and existing rewards members who use the Dairy Queen app can sign up for the sweepstakes.

Dairy Queen Recently Introduced 3 New Menu Items

After a long winter, Dairy Queen is looking forward to brighter days with a few new menu items.

The chain has teamed up with the Savannah Bananas baseball team to celebrate the upcoming baseball season and release a new Savannah Bananas Split Shake.

Available at participating locations nationwide, the shake is made with soft-serve ice cream, real milk, bananas, strawberries, chocolate shavings and whipped topping.

Additionally, Dairy Queen also added a new Mint Crunchin’ Dipped Cone and Mint Oreo Blizzard to its menu on Feb. 23.
