Mondelēz International has opened applications for the 2026 intake of its global R&D accelerator, CoLab Tech, inviting start-ups to collaborate on technologies designed to shape the future of snacking.

The programme, led by Mondelēz International’s global R&D team, is targeting entrepreneurs developing snack-forward technologies with strong potential for commercialisation and scale. Applications opened on 22 January and close on 31 March, with successful candidates joining a global cohort later this year.

CoLab Tech 2026 will focus on innovations that support Mondelēz International’s wider growth and sustainability ambitions, including supply chain and agricultural resilience, consumer wellness priorities such as fibre and protein, operational efficiency and sustainable packaging.

Ian Noble, VP of R&D at Mondelēz International, said:

As the maker of some of the world’s most iconic and beloved snacks like Oreo, Ritz and Toblerone, we must constantly push the boundaries of what it takes to unlock better, faster and more responsible ways of delighting consumers.

Technology is critical for growth, and CoLab Tech connects us with innovators with whom we can partner to accelerate our capabilities, share our expertise, and make real impact.”

The Accelerator programme’s 2026 priorities

The CoLab Tech 2026 priorities are:

  • Climate resilience: Climate-forward technologies that protect and supplement ingredient supply chains, primarily cocoa and wheat, through high-efficiency fermentation alongside regenerative and emission-reducing agricultural practices.
  • Breakthrough performance technologies: Solutions that enhance energy efficiency, develop sustainable and high-performance materials, streamline operational and cleaning processes, and accelerate R&D through advanced analytical, imaging and preservation technologies.
  • Next-generation ingredients: Technologies that respond to growing consumer demand for functional snacks with indulgent taste profiles, including increased fibre and protein, novel fat substitutes and sweetness modification while maintaining consumer liking.
  • Delightful product and packaging: Innovations that elevate taste and texture, extend product shelf life and deliver non-plastic packaging solutions that preserve quality and safety.

CoLab Tech programme leader Paula Hemerly said the 2026 cohort will play a critical role in helping the business respond to rapid shifts across the global food system.

We are experiencing seismic shifts in consumer consumption and shopping behaviours, global supply chain disruptions, an explosion of digital commerce and heightened appreciation for indulgence.

CoLab Tech helps us envision and apply the future to our business, while supporting those who are pioneering the next generation of snack-centric technologies.”

The accelerator is designed as a mutually beneficial, action-focused experience. Selected start-ups will receive mentoring from experts across Mondelēz International’s value chain, covering commercial readiness, market valuation and proof-of-concept testing, alongside networking, ecosystem building, storytelling and visibility.

CoLab Tech is open to start-ups worldwide that have reached minimum viable product stage and employ at least five people. Start-ups with diverse and minority board members will be a plus for selection. Further details and applications are available at snackfutures.com/colab-tech.
