It’s the new year, which means we’re focused on getting our protein in any way we can. Almost everything comes with extra protein now, so why not your wintertime sweet treat as well? This high-protein hot chocolate is here to get the job done and make good use of that giant tub of chocolate protein powder you have lurking in the back of your pantry. Once you blend it with melted chocolate, cocoa powder, the milk of your choice, and a little pinch of salt, you’ll hardly notice that you’re hitting your macros and maintaining those gains.

Using whole milk will add even more protein to the mix, but even with your favorite non-dairy pick, you’ll get at least 12 grams of protein per cup or more, depending on the brand you use. As far as protein powders go, I prefer a brand called Orgain because it doesn’t leave the weird aftertaste that I get from a lot of other brands, and it’s non-dairy, which agrees with my stomach a little bit more. Other brands that use whey will have more grams of protein per scoop, but may leave a lingering flavor in your mouth.
