Morrisons will become the first UK supermarket to launch a dedicated range of GLP-1 friendly ready meals, following a new three-year exclusive licensing deal with Applied Nutrition.

Under the agreement, Morrisons will formulate, produce and sell Applied Nutrition-branded meals and food products, with the first wave launching across around 400 Morrisons stores nationwide from early January 2026. A total of 53 SKUs will debut initially, with further products planned later in the year.

Meeting market demand

The high-protein range will span balanced ready meals, food-to-go sandwiches and salads, as well as breads and cheeses. Central to the launch is the UK’s first supermarket-exclusive range of GLP-1 friendly ready meals, designed to support consumers using weight-loss medications such as Ozempic and Mounjaro.

While GLP-1 medications have delivered significant weight-loss results, reduced appetite can lead to lower food intake and potential deficiencies in essential nutrients including protein, vitamins B12 and D, and iron. Rapid weight loss may also increase the risk of losing lean muscle mass, making GLP-1-dedicated food products with balanced nutrition and sufficient protein increasingly critical.

Lizzy Massey, Own Brand Director at Morrisons, said:

We know our customers are increasingly seeking high-protein, functional foods that fit seamlessly into their everyday lives – at home, at work, or on the move.

We are delighted to be partnering with Applied Nutrition, a highly trusted, fast-growing brand in the health space, and this exclusive range enables us to provide even more choice and great value to our customers.”

Expanding beyond supplements

The deal marks Applied Nutrition’s first out-licensing agreement and requires no capital expenditure, supporting its strategy to increase brand awareness, extend its product portfolio and expand distribution beyond supplements into mainstream food.

Thomas Ryder, CEO of Applied Nutrition, added:

We’re excited to be partnering with Morrisons for our first out-licensing deal, a testament to the strength of our brand and the growing consumer demand for convenient, high-protein food choices. This is a great opportunity to reach new audiences and enable existing customers to deepen their engagement with our brand.

We’ve enjoyed working with Morrisons, combining their expertise in food development with our deep customer understanding to create a unique product range designed to support people in achieving their wellness goals.”
