churros shaped like mini christmas trees topped with ganache and sprinkles

When you hear “Christmas tree churros,” you might think—are you fir real? Well, yes, yes I am. Frying churros into these festive little trees will be sure to lift your (holiday) spirits. To make these Christmas tree churros, I used our classic churro recipe, which is basically foolproof—if you’ve never made churros before, this is the recipe to use. Tracing out your circles and piping over them is the most logistically difficult part of this process, and once you’re done with that, all you have to do is fry them up, roll them in cinnamon sugar, and cover them in ganache and sprinkles. Make these churros to wow your guests at your next holiday party or just because you’re craving the perfect sweet treat in a new, adorable way.

To make sure your churros come out in the right size rings to stack into your Christmas trees, I call for tracing out different-sized circles on a sheet tray using a pencil, piping the churro batter on top of the traced lines, then freezing the batter so that it holds shape before frying them. If you don’t have different-sized round cookie cutters, you can use different-sized glasses to trace out your circles. Also important to note: You must grease the parchment with nonstick cooking spray before piping the batter of your traced circles. It will be so much easier to remove the frozen churros if you spray the paper, so don’t skip this step!

Tip: Eat these right away as they won’t last well! If you want to get ahead, you can make and pipe the batter up to 1 week ahead. Wrap in plastic wrap and freeze until you’re ready to use.
