Costco has issued a voluntary safety recall of its popular Kirkland prosecco, warning customers that the bottles can break or shatter.
In a Nov. 6 product safety notice, the U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission stated that about 941,400 bottles of Costco’s Kirkland Signature Valdobbiadene Prosecco DOCG are being recalled.
According to the notice, F&F Fine Wines International, Inc., the company that imports and distributes the wine, has received 10 reports of the prosecco bottles breaking or shattering, which has resulted in one injury.
The recall comes almost two months since Costco issued the similar notice for the product, stating there’s “a risk of unopened bottles shattering, even when not handled or in use.” The November recall is a follow up to the initial recall, F&F Fine Wines said in a notice posted to Costco’s website.
How to Know If Your Bottle is At Risk?
According to the notice, the Universal Product Code (UPC) of the affected prosecco bottle is 196633883742 and the Costco item number is 1879870.
The product was sold in a green bottle with purple foil on the top and a purple label with the words “Kirkland Signature Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG,” the notice states.
The Kirkland prosecco was sold at Costco stores in Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, Nebraska, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin from April 2025 through August 2025 for a retail price of about $8.

What to Do if You Have a Recalled Bottle?
People who purchased the product should immediately stop using the recalled bottle. The notice states to not open the bottle and to throw it out in household trash.
Costco said in its initial notice that customers should wrap the bottles in paper towels or put them in a bag before throwing them out to avoid injury.
People should contact Ethica Wines at customercare@ethicawines.com for information on how to get a full refund from Costco.
