With SNAP benefits at risk amid the ongoing government shutdown, two food delivery services are rolling out plans to provide a bit of assistance to the millions of Americans who rely on the governmental program.

This week, DoorDash and Gopuff both announced plans to offer free food and waive delivery fees for SNAP participants.

Here’s what we know about both companies’ plans, and how SNAP participants can get free or discounted food through these services.

Why SNAP Participants May Not Receive November Benefits

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) provides low-income families monetary assistance to help pay for groceries. On Oct. 10, the Department of Agriculture distributed a letter to SNAP state agency and regional directors warning that the shutdown could halt funding for the program.

Since the shutdown began on Oct. 1, funding for the month of October was previously distributed to the states. However, many states have warned residents that November funding will not be distributed.

Gopuff’s Plans to Support SNAP Participants

Gopuff is donating up to $10 million in free groceries to SNAP recipients.

During the month of November, the grocery delivery service will offer SNAP recipients two $25 credits, for a total of $50. The credits can be used on SNAP-eligible items.

In order to be eligible, customers need to connect their SNAP EBT card to their Gopuff account.

Here’s how it works:

  • Add your SNAP EBT card to your Gopuff account if it’s not already connected.
  • Fill your online cart with SNAP-eligible groceries.
  • Use the code SNAPRELIEF1 between Nov. 1 — 15 for $25 off SNAP-eligible items and free delivery.
  • Use the code SNAPRELIEF2 between Nov. 16 — 30 for $25 off SNAP-eligible items and free delivery.

Each code is valid until 200,000 coupons are redeemed.

DoorDash’s Plans to Support SNAP Participants

DoorDash is rolling out support for SNAP participants in multiple ways as part of its Emergency Food Response:

  • Delivering 1 million meals for free: During the month of November, DoorDash will support 300+ Project DASH food bank partners nationwide by waiving merchant fees.
  • Free delivery and service fees: DoorDash will waive fees on approximately 300,000 grocery orders for SNAP recipients at Sprouts, Dollar General, Schnucks, Ahold Delhaize brands, Hy-Vee, Giant Eagle and Wegmans. Customers need to connect their SNAP/EBT card to their profile to waive the fees on one order.
  • Food donations to local food banks from DashMart stores: DoorDash is donating fresh food, household essentials and shelf-stable items to food banks in affected areas.

DoorDash is also providing the following ways for consumers to support SNAP participants:
