If you recently purchased vanilla ice cream from your local Publix, you might want to check the packaging before eating it.
The grocery store chain is voluntarily recalling one of its ice cream flavors over concerns that it may include an undeclared allergen.
Below, we’re outlining all the details you need to know.
The Recall Affects Publix Rich & Creamy Vanilla Ice Cream
In a recall notice posted on its website, Publix announced that it was recalling one lot of Publix Rich & Creamy Vanilla Ice Cream over concerns that the batch may contain an undeclared egg allergen.
The issue, Publix says, is that the recalled products “may contain Publix Rich & Creamy French Vanilla Ice Cream with a mismatch French Vanilla container lid.”
Since each flavor has its own unique set of ingredients, a packaging mix-up could cause potential health concerns for some consumers.
“People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to eggs may run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume this product,” the recall reads.
How to Tell If You Have the Recalled Product
The recalled ice cream was sold in stores in several states, including, Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, South Carolina, Tennessee and Florida. A few Florida stores were excluded from the distribution, including Jacksonville, Tallahassee, Tampa and Sarasota.
The affected products include the UPC code 41415 03043. The half gallon container also has a sell by date of “June 19, 2026.”
Have There Been Any Reported Illnesses so Far?
Once the brand realized there was an issue, all “potentially impacted” products were “removed from all store shelves,” according to Publix Director of Communications Maria Brous.
So far, the store hasn’t received any reports of illness.
