Costco has issued a product safety notice for an issue with bottles of Kirkland Signature Prosecco that is so serious, it advises to dispose of them immediately and not return them to the store.
In a notice on its website, the wholesale chain warned members who purchased bottles of Kirkland Signature Prosecco Valdobbiadene that there is “a risk of unopened bottles shattering, even when not handled or in use.”
The bottles were sold between April 25 and Aug. 26 at Costco locations in 12 states: Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Minnesota, Michigan, Missouri, North Dakota, Nebraska, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin. The bottles contain item No. 1879870.

Costco advises any customers who have unopened bottles of the prosecco not to open them.
The affected bottles should be disposed of immediately by wrapping them in paper towels or placing them in a plastic bag before putting them in the garbage in order to avoid injury from the glass potentially shattering, according to Costco.
Anyone who purchased the Kirkland bottles can get a full refund by returning the letter shared on the company’s website to the nearest Costco location.
