pigs in a blanket made with pretzeled dough

In my opinion, pigs in a blanket are always the way to go when it comes to hosting. They’re made up of cheap ingredients, can be cooked in big batches, and, best of all, everyone loves them. When you throw a lot of parties like I do (anything can be an occasion to celebrate if I say so!), it’s easy for these classic apps to start to get a little repetitive. That’s where these pretzel pigs in a blanket come in to save the day. They use all the same ingredients, but have just one extra step that gives them a fun, different spin. Read on for how to do it.

The pretzels:
If you’ve ever made pretzels before, you’ll recognize the boiling step here. If not, it might seem strange to boil these in baking soda, but trust me—it’s what gives these pigs their distinct pretzel flavor and look. They should hold together for the 10 seconds, but if yours begin to unravel in the water, try sticking them together with toothpicks. Just don’t forget to take them out before serving!

Serving:
Speaking of serving, I think mustard is a must-have for dipping here, but a cheese sauce could also be nice. No one would say no to ranch either. Give a variety and options and let your guests pick and choose!

Storage:
If you want to get ahead, you can assemble your pigs in a blanket through step 2, then store them covered in your fridge until you’re ready to boil and bake them. If you have leftovers, you can keep them in an airtight container in the fridge for about 3 days. Reheat them in your oven or air fryer.
