A public health alert has been issued for a Trader Joe’s frozen pizza after the product was imported from Italy and not reinspected, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said.
The USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service issued the alert on Aug. 29 for Trader Joe’s Uncured Pepperoni Pizza, a frozen, not-ready-to-eat product imported from Italy.
The FSIS said the products did not receive the benefit of import reinspection once they were shipped from Italy to retail locations in California.

Trader Joe’s notified the FSIS that the product was not presented for reinspection, but a recall was not issued since the items are no longer available for purchase in stores, the FSIS said.
Trader Joe’s shared the same statement it posted on its website in an email with TODAY.com.
“Due to a paperwork error, a shipment of Trader Joe’s Uncured Pepperoni Pizza (SKU# 79898, Best By Dates of 8/16/26 and 8/21/26), imported from Italy was not presented for import reinspection into the United States prior to delivery to these Trader Joe’s stores in Southern California,” the company said.
The full list of stores includes more than 60 stores in California.
“We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience,” Trader Joe’s said.
While the pizzas are no longer for sale, the FSIS said it was concerned that customers may still have the items in their freezers.
Consumers who purchased the pizzas are urged not to eat them, according to the FSIS, and should throw them away or return them to the place of purchase.
The affected products have “MFG LOT: 06/16/25 BEST BY: 08/16/26” or “MFG LOT: 06/21/25 BEST BY 08/21/26” printed on the bottom of the cardboard package, according to the FSIS.
The product also has the Italy establishment number “IT 1558 L UE” printed inside the Italian mark of inspection located on the front of the package, according to the FSIS.
There have been no reports of illness or adverse reactions after consuming the pizzas, the FSIS said. Anyone with concerns about an illness or reaction should contact a healthcare provider.
Trader Joe’s said in the statement customers with questions can contact customer relations at (626) 599-3817 or via email.
