The House of Ronald McDonald is putting in extra work to win back cash-strapped customers.
On Sept. 2, McDonald’s announced it is bringing back Extra Value Meals. The incentive, which was first introduced in 1991, gave customers savings on an entree, side and drink, until it was discontinued in 2019. It’ll be back starting Sept. 8.
The chain is starting things off with two Extra Value Meal offers — $5 for breakfast and $8 for lunch/dinner — coming in September and November, for a limited time, as well as the eight standard Extra Value Meal options that net customers 15% in savings.
Joe Erlinger, president of McDonald’s USA, said in a press release the chain is “laser-focused on delivering value and affordability” to customers.
“I’m incredibly proud of how our franchisees and teams continue to step up to make it a reality,” he added.
The Golden Arches has been on a mission to convince customers on a budget to come back for over a year now: First, it dropped the $5 Meal Deal in 2024, setting off the value wars among its deep-fried competition. Then, in January 2025, the chain introduced its McValue menu, which included a buy-one, add-one-for-$1 offer.
Most recently, on Aug. 20, the the Wall Street Journal reported that McDonald’s leadership convinced franchisees that it would provide financial assistance to franchise owners if they lowered prices.
What’s on the Extra Value Meals Menu?
$5, $8 and Other Extra Value Deals
To kick off the savings, McDonald’s customers can score the following deals this year:
- September: $5 Sausage Egg McMuffin meals and $8 Big Mac meals
- November: $5 Sausage, Egg and Cheese McGriddle meals and $8 10-piece Chicken McNuggets meals
- All of 2025: $2.99 Snack Wraps through the end of the year
Extra Value Meal Options
In addition to the $5 and $8 meal offers, customers can opt for an Extra Value Meal from breakfast to dinner. These will save customers 15% when compared to purchasing the entree, fries and drink separately.
